St. Vincent Oncology Services and New Outlook
A cancer diagnosis presents many challenges, but patients don't have to face them alone, regardless of where the patient is treated.
The experience of cancer challenges a person in every conceivable way -- emotional and physical stamina, financial and employment security, relationships, and self image. Through the comprehensive services of New Outlook -- The Cancer Recovery Program at St. Vincent provides assistance in dealing with the effects of the disease and its treatment.
Staffed by trained professionals and volunteers, New Outlook offers the following services:
Wig and hair styling
Support groups for cancer survivors and their families
Information and referral services
Breast prosthesis and mastectomy bras for women who qualify for financial assistance
Private professional counseling
Support groups meet at St. Vincent Infirmary in the Oncology Group Room on the seventh floor, the first and third Wednesday, 11 a.m. – until noon. At St. Vincent Sherwood Rehabilitation Hospital a support group meets in the Education Room the second Monday, noon-1 p.m.
Most of the services of New Outlook are free. Some services are available by appointment only. All services are confidential and have been designed by a team of oncology professionals and women whose lives have been touched by cancer.
